Matt Western MP Visits Campion for Q & A

On 20th March, Campion School welcomed Matt Western for a special visit with students.

The session took place in the school hall, where students studying Politics, Citizenship and Year 10 English had the opportunity to meet Mr Western and ask him a range of questions about his role as an MP, current political issues and about how decisions are made in Parliament. Students engaged thoughtfully in the discussion and were keen to learn more about how politics affects their lives and communities.

The visit formed part of Campion’s commitment to encouraging democratic engagement among young people. With ongoing national discussions about reducing the voting age, the school is working to ensure that students are informed about democracy and feel confident participating in civic life.

Throughout the session, students demonstrated curiosity and enthusiasm, asking insightful questions and taking part in a lively discussion about politics, representation and the importance of having a voice in society.

'It is vital that young people learn about democracy and the role our representatives have in parliament - a great way to do this is by meeting the MP. We thank Matt western for answering so many questions today' (Ms Partington-Jenkins, Head of Politics and Citizenship)

'I will be voting in the next general election because of the voting age being reduced. Young people need more opportunities to meet with Members of Parliament to learn about the issues that affect us all' (Year 7 Student)

The visit was a valuable opportunity for students to engage directly with a local representative and gain a deeper understanding of how democracy works in practice.
