Life Saving Skills for Sixth Formers

Sixth Form Health and Social Care students recently took part in a vital CPR and defibrillator training session delivered by the OurJay Foundation.

The training carried a powerful emotional message as it was delivered by a family who had tragically lost their son, Jay, to cardiac arrest – hence the name of the foundation. Their story brought a poignant and personal perspective to the training, leaving a lasting impression on students and staff alike.

Throughout the afternoon, students learnt how to perform CPR effectively and gained hands-on experience using a defibrillator—skills that could one day help save a life in an emergency situation. In addition to the practical training, students were encouraged to explore their local community, identifying where publicly-accessible defibrillators are located, which helped to reinforce the importance of being prepared and aware of available resources in real-life scenarios.

Students thought it had been an engaging and deeply impactful session, which had equipped them with confidence and essential life-saving skills for responding to emergency situations, and had highlighted the importance of early intervention and awareness.
