Campion Students Impress at KMAT Great Debate Showcase

On Monday, 11 May, a team of talented Year 8 students from Campion School represented the school at the inaugural KMAT Great Debate Showcase, held at the University of Warwick.

The event, organised by Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust (KMAT) in partnership with the University of Warwick, brought together 19 schools and 24 debating teams from across the Midlands and beyond for a celebration of confidence, critical thinking and public speaking.

Representing Campion School were Anas Chaudhary, Amirah Noman, Hitha Prashanthgowda, Jaya Annadasu and Kayden Chance. Throughout the day, the team demonstrated excellent communication skills, thoughtful reasoning and the confidence to tackle a range of challenging debate topics.

Students debated a variety of thought-provoking motions, including, whether; dogs are man's best friend; the UK should re-join the European Union; parents are responsible for the actions of their children and whether fictional characters make better role models than real-life celebrities.

Adding to Campion's contribution, Year 12 student Manny Bains, who studies A Level Politics, supported the event by serving as a judge for debates involving other schools. His contribution highlighted the strong culture of student leadership and academic engagement at Campion.

The competition was fierce, with schools travelling from across the region and beyond to participate in what is quickly becoming one of the area's premier debating events. Kenilworth School emerged as overall winners with an impressive 54 points.

Campion School finished in a highly respectable tenth place, scoring 30 points. The team also received special recognition for two standout debaters, Anas Chaudhary and Amirah Noman, whose performances were singled out for praise by the judges.

The KMAT Great Debate Showcase transformed the University of Warwick into a true battleground of ideas, argument and ambition, providing students with an invaluable opportunity to develop their public speaking skills, build confidence and engage with complex issues.

Congratulations to all of our students who took part and represented Campion School so positively - the team is looking forward to developing its debating skills and competing in future events.
