Making a Difference - Careers Programme (ASPIRE, ENGAGE, ACHIEVE)

Here at Campion, we have devised a Careers Plan that reflects the community it serves, with the aim of raising the career aspirations of all our students. Our careers program is based on guidance theories and models.  The aim of our careers plan is to support our vision: to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes, and encourage pupils to consider a wide range of career opportunities and experiences available to them. Through the delivery of careers education and guidance, our pupils are encouraged to make the most of their talents, skills and attributes, enabling them to make informed decisions about the options for employment, Further Education, Higher Education and beyond.

We postulate that each student departs from Campion School fully equipped with the necessary tools that match their career needs, attributes, and intelligence. Our careers programme is modelled on current best practice in careers guidance, and the Gatsby Benchmarks, developed by the Gatsby Foundation, have been embedded in our careers work (see our Entitlement Statement for further information). We work closely in conjunction with the Careers & Enterprise Company’s Enterprise Adviser network and are a Careers Development Institute Affiliate School.

Above all, we value strong partnerships to improve our consistent programme of careers education, including working with local employers and colleges. At the heart of our careers programme is the opportunity to engage regularly with employers to learn from them about careers, employment, and the skills valued in the workplace. Incorporating the characteristics of Watts' (1977) Dots model, our students are able to identify and articulate motivations, skills, and personality traits based on one of the four components of his framework: self-awareness, Opportunity Awareness, Decision-Making, and Transition Learning. From understanding “the self, opportunities and considered choices”.

Our learners are supported through the various stages of their career development using work-related activities to enable them to make informed decisions about their career goals and progression. We promote community engagement with our students to ensure that they become active members of the community and are free from social exclusion.
