Wild Rails: Connecting Education and Nature Along the Leamington-Birmingham Moor Street Line
Wild Rails is an innovative educational programme that engages schools along the Leamington to Birmingham Moor Street railway line. It aims to inspire students by teaching them about local biodiversity and empowering them to support and enhance nature at their nearby stations.
In partnership with the Heart of England Community Rail Partnership, Campion School’s Eco-Club has taken meaningful steps to improve their local station—Leamington Spa. One of the highlights is the installation of a vibrant new 'Bug Hotel' at Leamington Spa Train Station. Located in the terraced garden near the railings by the taxi rank (close to the Lower Avenue Road pedestrian shortcut into the car park), this habitat provides a safe haven for beneficial insects and pollinators.
Additionally, the station features eye-catching children’s cyanotype art collage posters —created by the eco-club—that are displayed near Platform 2, adding a splash of creativity and community spirit to the station environment.
This initiative exemplifies how educational programmes like Wild Rails can foster a greater appreciation for nature while making our local stations more welcoming and environmentally friendly.
