  • Environmental Science Students Visit Hill Farm

Campion School Year 12 and 13 Environmental Science students recently visited Hill Farm, a working farm in Radford Semele, as part of their studies into modern agriculture and sustainability.

During the visit, students were given a guided tour by Mr  and Mrs Gibbs, the farmers, who provided valuable insight into the day-to-day running of the farm. The tour highlighted how farming practices have changed over time, particularly in response to advances in science, technology and the increasing demands for environmental responsibility.

A key focus of the visit was the role of national government regulation in modern farming. Students learnt about the extensive regulations farmers must follow, especially in relation to land management, animal welfare and environmental protection. This helped bring classroom topics to life and showed how policy directly influences real-world farming decisions.

The group also discussed the use of fertilisers and the environmental science behind their application. Students explored how fertilisers are managed to maximise crop yields while minimising negative impacts on soil health, water quality and surrounding ecosystems. The visit demonstrated how scientific knowledge is essential in balancing food production with environmental sustainability.
