Students learn exciting new skills from Royal Navy Visit
In June, our students had a unique opportunity to engage in a team-building workshop with the Royal Navy. The session began with an inspiring short video about Sailor Sally Hughes, who heroically rescued 14 people at sea. Students listened attentively and discussed what items could be used for rescue in such situations—one of the popular answers being a flare.
Following the discussion, the students were shown how to make a safe, functional flare, with clear instructions provided. Excitement grew as each group of three worked together to complete a series of challenges designed to strengthen teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills. These activities encouraged students to take initiative, think creatively, and support one another in a collaborative environment.
Once the flares were prepared, each group took turns firing their flare outside. Every student played a crucial role—either igniting the flare, announcing its name, or leading a countdown for the group. The atmosphere was lively and filled with a sense of achievement.
At the end of the session, students had the chance to ask the Royal Navy personnel questions, leading to some excellent and insightful discussions. This workshop not only provided practical skills but also inspired confidence, teamwork, and curiosity about life in the Royal Navy.
