The Cambridge Advanced National in Engineering is a Level 3 qualification that combines academic study with practical engineering experience. Equivalent in size to one A Level, it is widely accepted by universities and employers and carries UCAS Tariff points. Students develop the technical knowledge, design skills and problem-solving abilities required for progression to higher education, higher and degree apprenticeships, and careers across all engineering disciplines. Assessment includes both externally assessed examinations and Non exam assessment units (NEA) enabling students to apply engineering principles to real-world engineering challenges.
Unit studied:
- F130: Principles of Engineering – explores engineering mathematics, mechanical principles, and electrical and electronic principles that underpin modern engineering practice.
- F131: Materials Science and Technology – investigates engineering materials, their properties, processing techniques, sustainability, and material selection for engineering applications.
- F132: Engineering in Practice – develops practical engineering skills through product analysis, Computer Aided Design (CAD), manufacturing processes, prototype production, and evaluation.
- F133: Computer Aided Design (CAD) – focuses on creating professional 3D models, assemblies, technical drawings, and engineering simulations using industry-standard CAD software.
- F137: Electrical Devices and Circuits – develops knowledge and practical skills in designing, constructing, and testing electrical and electronic circuits, including analogue and digital electronics.
