Religious Education (RE)
In the RE Department, we are committed to raising standards of achievement and fostering best practices in teaching. We strive to inspire all students to appreciate the value of the RE curriculum, which is designed to address the diverse needs, concerns, and aspirations of every learner.
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3, students explore a variety of thought-provoking topics. In Year 7, they delve into “Images of God” and participate in events that highlight the significance of Christmas and Easter. These experiences aim to deepen their understanding of the meanings behind these major celebrations. In Year 8, students engage with the topic of “Faith,” encouraging them to reflect on their personal beliefs and the role faith plays in navigating life’s challenges. Additionally, they investigate the concept of "spirituality" and examine how it influences people's coping mechanisms.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4, the curriculum expands to cover essential topics relevant to contemporary society. Year 9 students study “Prejudice and Discrimination,” while Year 10 focusses on “Religion and Human Rights.” In Year 11, students explore “Religion, Poverty, and Wealth.” These topics are part of the GCSE OCR Course and are designed to encourage students to articulate their personal views while developing their listening skills. This approach enables them to engage thoughtfully with key events and issues affecting the world today.
Through a dynamic and reflective curriculum, the RE Department aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate their personal beliefs and contribute positively to society.
